NOTICE OF FINAL ACTION BY THE DEPARTMENT OF ECOLOGY ON THE City of Spokane's SHORELINE MASTER PROGRAM
Posted July 27, 2010
The Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) has taken final action to approve the City of Spokane’s Shoreline Master Program (“SMP”) comprehensive update adopted
by City Council on June 21, 2010. The SMP was prepared consistent with the requirements of WAC 173-26 and Chapter 90.58 RCW – The State Shoreline Management Act.
On February 1, 2010 - Ecology approved the City of Spokane SMP comprehensive update contingent on City acceptance of specific required changes. On July 14, 2010 – The City sent a letter to Ecology agreeing to all of Ecology’s documented required and recommended changes to the SMP, except for proposing alternative language referenced in Attachments B and C.
On July 26, 2010, Ecology gave final approval to the City of Spokane SMP comprehensive update, including the alternative language proposed by the City. There will be no further modifications required to the SMP under RCW 90.58.090(2). Per WAC 173-26-120(7)(b)(ii), the effective date of the City of Spokane’s SMP is July 26, 2010.
Under RCW 36.70A.290, any petition for review of these amendments must be filed within sixty days after the publication date of this notice. Appeals can be made to the Growth Management Hearings Board.
The SMP ordinances and full documents are available below or from the City Clerk at 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., Floor 5, in the Spokane City Hall. Questions regarding the SMP may be directed to Nikole Coleman at (509) 625-6883 or via email at
